Carl, I can't wait to vote yes to question #2 tomorrow! It has been a long time coming, but make no mistake about it, it never would have happened if it weren't for you and your mother's perseverance. You have accomplished more in the past 4 years since your injury than many able bodied people do in a lifetime. I have watched you grow from a typical teenager into a truly amazing young man. I look forward to the future, and watching you continue to break down barriers and push forward toward any goal you set. Along the way, you are helping so many others in so many ways. Anyone who says "I can't" need only to look at your life, and they will see that they can. I plan on being the first one at the polls tomorrow to cast my vote for hope. I will be thinking of you.

Voted today, and told my family to vote as well - in particular "YES" to the Stem Cell Research Question. And all because of reading Carl's editorial. All the best Carl!

it is sad that the greatest country in the world cannot put its full force both economic and scientific, behind stem cell research and in particular embryonic stem cell research. remember the facts are that stem cells are the hope that we will have cures for dozens of catastrophic medical problems. the central nervous system which includes the brain , the brain stem and the spinal cord. have special and unique properties and have its own set of diseases. such as parkinsons, alzheimers, and spinal cord injuries just to name a few. problems of the CNS are even more catastrophic because their effects are such that the person inflicted can not perform the most minimal aspects of life that make life worth living. what has science told us ? the unquestioned truth is that in the cns the only stemm cells that live long enough for any hope af a cure are embryonic stem cells. the ESC are not made for the purpose of a cure , they are already made and being discarded by clinics that have no further use for them . they are routinely destroyed. once again the fear mongers ,the rite to life people , the religious factions, and economic issues. along with the general populations lack of knowledge , have combined to halt progress for the human race. iam sure if stem cells will cure my beautiful son carl along with hundreds of others , it will happen some day. my sadness is that once again time has been taken away for no logical reason. my wife tricia and son carl along with hundreds of others in NJ will continue to educate and advocate for stem cell research and then finally a cure ,for everyones loved ones .

Different people have different interpretations of what a hero truly is. When you are very young Superman or another cartoon character is your hero. Parents and sports figures may fill that role too. When you get older you don’t think in terms of someone being your hero. Prominent people in your life become role models that you want to emulate. Your accident in February 2003 changed my perspective on what a hero and role model truly is. In the face of adversity, you make the lives of everyone you come in contact with more fulfilling. You are a positive role model. Those that know you personally can relate to what I am saying. Those that don’t know you are very unfortunate because they don’t have the opportunity to experience what an outstanding individual you truly are. Carl, you are my hero. I love you.

This powerful statement written by a doctor I once had helped me during my healing process for a serious illness and I read it often for strength. I want to share it with you. "Simplify your life by reexamining your values. Love yourself and others. Communicate your true feelings. Laugh. Health is balance and wholeness. Seek meaning and purpose. Forgive yourself and others. Worship, because spiritual well being is part of the healing journey. Stay connected. Don't look back and never say "what if..." Carl, you already knew all these things. God Bless You

To Peter, in read your recent post, and share your disappointment as well as your hope for the future of stem cell research and all the good that come from it. On a positive note, look at the latest encouraging news from Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem: World first: Hadassah uses adult stem cells to help patients. http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1195546693963&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull

Hello Carl, I found your website by following a link. And was inspired by your story...to be honest I have never heard of your story til now. Recently, My 18 year old niece was paralyzed in a car accident. She was a passenger of a vehicle that lost control. The driver walked away with bumbs and bruises, but my niece became a parapaledgic. It has been a very difficult for her, but stories like yours make her believe she will walk again. I just wanted to let you know that your story is inspiring and touches many lives.
